Winter Poems - January 2024

Here are our Winter Poems. We hope you like them. We thought carefully about our word choices and were keen to try and make a picture in the reader's head. Can you spot examples of alliteration, repetition, simile, rhyme and maybe even personification?

Wheelchair Activities

Wheelchair sports and activities and our PSHE curriculum

3MW really enjoyed their opportunity to try out a range of wheelchair activities. After an initial session based on movement and then dance in wheelchairs,  3MW then explored archery and tennis. These sessions were delivered expertly by outside coaches who invited the children to empathise and understand the perspective of wheelchair users. They were very powerful and fun sessions.  This links so well to our PSHE curriculum where children explore belonging and community and similarities and differences.

Well done 3MW!

 Autumn Term Activities!

Orienteering

In PE we have been learning about orienteering. This involved making an imaginary world on the ground with different equipment and materials. We then drew this world on to our own map. We have learnt lots of skills about how to move around the map and to navigate ourselves between positions. We have learnt many new words and skills to help us explore and use simple maps effectively.

Our Trip to Conkers

Here are just a few photographs from our trip to Conkers where we developed our understanding about the heritage of many places around the East Midlands. Coal Mining is an important part of Jacksdale’s history and we have learnt about this in our classroom, on a local walk and through our trip to Conkers. All of the adults were very amazed by how willingly all the children whipped off their shoes and socks to go on a barefoot sensory walk. This was great as it made the children talk about and feel what it may have been like for children working in the mines over 130 years ago.

It was a great day at Conkers and we all really want to go back again!

Local Walk to explore our local history and geography

Here are a few photos from a local walk we took around the village. It was good to understand and talk about the services and facilities that Jacksdale has together with spotting features that illuminate more about the history of our village.

We have really enjoyed exploring sources in the classroom, including photographs and videos with interviews with retired miners to understand more about the place where we go to school and many of us live.

Maths and Oracy

We did this maths on ‘no pens’ day which was a brilliant day! We are focussing on building our oracy skills in 3MW. Look out for photographs of our rules and our talk corner which show why oracy is so important; a lot of important learning takes place through discussion and sharing ideas.

Autumn 2 Creative Homework

Computing Information for Year 3

These knowledge organisers show the topics we are covering in the Autumn Term. Knowledge organisers show the vocabulary and content that we aim to cover in each topic. Coding (Unit 3.1)  is all about programming events and controlling outcomes using specific instructions. Online Safety (3.2) looks at how we can use the internet. Keep a look out for our class blog on Purple Mash. Ask your child to log on and show you!
