Welcome to the New Half Term!

We hope you all had a wonderful and restful break. We are so excited to welcome the children back for another fantastic half term of learning, playing, and growing together.

Our Topic: This is Me – Rules and Routines

We are focussing our learning  around fantastic stories like Colour Monster, Colour Monster goes to School, Super Duper you! and Farmer Duck.

We will be focusing on setting gentle expectations with the children, learning manners, and discovering "magic words." We will also learn how to be a good friend, take turns, and share with one another. In our Investigator Group, we will practice writing our names while working on listening closely and building our attention spans.

Our Explorer Group will focus on meeting their new adults and gently settling into our daily routine. The children will practice recognising their names and having a go at writing them. We will also provide plenty of time for the children to practice their fine motor skills, helping them get ready for writing very soon! 😊

Finally, we will explore the wonderful differences and beautiful similarities between different times and people.

PHONICS:

• Investigators are continuing their RWI phonics in their groups form week 2.
• Explorers are following Letters and Sounds.
• Big explorers are learning about rhyming words and our Little Explorers are practicing good listening skills, by listening sounds indoor and outside.

MATHS:

• Our Explorers will be learning all about building with different objects and practising hearing and recognising numbers. The children will enjoy making marks for numbers, singing numerical nursery rhymes, and having lots of playful fun with maths!

• Our Investigators are diving into early maths by learning how to match, sort, and compare different objects. They will practice creating and repeating patterns, matching the correct number to a group of objects, and counting items up to five. The children will also explore the language of shapes—using words like corner, side, straight, and flat—and will even try estimating small amounts at a glance without counting!

PSED (Personal, social, emotional development):

• Finding comfort in the familiar person
• Show friendly behaviour, contributing to increasingly positive play and relationships.

PD (Personal Development):

• Control of our body and movements
• Using tools (e.g. scissors) with control
• Making marks on work

C&L (Communication and language):

• Listening, role play, questioning, expanding vocabulary in speaking and listening

UW (Understanding the world):

• Learning about others and gaining curiosity about people around us. 
• Talking about their own family and the important people around us
• We will be learning all about what grows on the farm and sharing lovely chats about the autumn harvest. To celebrate everything we have learnt, we will be finishing our topic with a wonderful Harvest Festival!

EAD (Expressive Arts):

• We will be slinging nursery rhymes and learning some new songs, making sounds with instruments and make music.

P.E. Days

This half term, both our Explorers and Investigators will enjoy PE twice a week! Our sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays just before lunchtime. We are so happy and excited to watch the children play games together and learn how to safely manage their own space.

Please come to school in P.E kit on these days.

Any earrings must be removed before school on these days, thank you! 

How can I help at home?
Encourage your child to:
• Say please and thank you
• ‘Have a go’
•  'Make a good choices’
• Practice putting their coat on themselves and zipping it up
• Get dressed by themselves
• Use the toilet on their own
• Using cutlery to hold and cut food
• Share toys when playing
• Talk about how they are feeling and if they need help, talking to the adults around them for help
• Sharing stories and having a go at talking about the pictures they can see
