EYFS - Explorers & Investigators
Meet Our Class

Welcome to the JPS EYFS Unit!
Together we are made up of the nursery children (the Explorers), and the reception children (the Investigators).
We love looking forward to every day, welcoming the children in with their friends and making sure that every moment is filled with learning, laughter and fun along the way.
We make sure that the children have opportunities to learn together, as well as having focused learning time for the reception and nursery children to meet their different needs in English and maths.
Our continuous provision is designed to build the children's independent skills with the support they all need, basing the learning on the children's interests.
We learn.... A LOT!
We have fun... A LOT!
We build relationships... A LOT!
We are active... A LOT!
We encourage parents to get involved with children's learning, and you can always find out more about this both in our newsletters and on the EYFS page of the website...
Remember to check the photo gallery at the bottom of the page to see what the children have been up to.
Welcome to the New Half Term!
We hope you have had a restful half term and are back feeling refreshed and ready for a jam-packed Autumn 2! We have lots planned over the next seven weeks and are excited to get stuck into our learning together.
Our Topic: Celebrations - Celebrate with us!
We are focussing our learning around fantastic stories like Percy The Park Keeper, Baby Owls, Twinkly nativity and many books supporting Bonfire, Diwali, Remembrance Day and Helping others in Need.
In our Investigator Group, we will practice writing new letter sounds and simple CVC words.
Our Explorer Group will make a lot of art work and have plenty of time for the children to practice their fine motor skills, helping them get ready for writing their names! 😊
PHONICS:
- Investigators are continuing their RWI phonics in their groups form week 2.
- Explorers are following Letters and Sounds.
MATHS:
-
Our Explorers will be learning all about building with different objects and practising hearing and recognising numbers. The children will enjoy making marks for numbers, singing numerical nursery rhymes, and having lots of playful fun with maths!
-
Our Investigators will be focusing on counting skills and the die pattern for 5, comparing sets – by matching and using the language of comparison: more than, fewer than, an equal number. We will be exploring the concept of ‘whole’ and ‘part’ and learning to match, by turning and flipping
PSED (Personal, social, emotional development):
- We will be learning about kindness. What kindness is, what it looks like, how we can be kind and what kindness does around us.
- We will be learning how to co-operate in a team and learn to listen, sit, and sing, ready for the parents to see us at Christmas play
PD (Personal Development):
- Control of our body and movements, practising balance and large movements
- Using tools (e.g. scissors) with control
- Making marks on work
C&L (Communication and language):
- Listening to others in a larger group
- New vocabulary related to the celebrations
UW (Understanding the world):
- Learning about different cultures and celebrations
- Learning about woodland animals and their homes
- Facts about day, dark, night and lights
EAD (Expressive Arts):
- We will be singing lots of Christmas songs, making decorations and arts around celebrations.

P.E. Days
This half term, both our Explorers and Investigators will enjoy PE twice a week! Our sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays just before lunchtime. We are so happy and excited to watch the children play games together and learn how to safely manage their own space.
Please come to school in P.E kit on these days.
Any earrings must be removed before school on these days, thank you!
How can I help at home?
Encourage your child to:
• Say please and thank you
• ‘Have a go’
• 'Make a good choices’
• Practice putting their coat on themselves and zipping it up
• Get dressed by themselves
• Use the toilet on their own
• Using cutlery to hold and cut food
• Share toys when playing
• Talk about how they are feeling and if they need help, talking to the adults around them for help
• Sharing stories and having a go at talking about the pictures they can see
