Welcome to 6B!
Summer Term - June / July 2016
Welcome to the final half term of the year... and boy is it gonna be a busy one!
We have:
Year 6 residential
Year 5 / 6 production of 'We Will Rock You'
End of term leaver's assembly
Class Swap Day
Sports Day
District Sports competition
Transition to secondary visits
End of year reports
Science club
Key stage 2 governor interviews
Governor awards
...and all the other parts of our curriculum that make up the school day!
Please check the links below for our child and parent newsletters and keep a special look out for information about the year 5 / 6 production - we've been sending out letters , scripts and songs, and costume requests, but all key letters will be uploaded on this page... or on 6N's class page.
Please remember that as it is the summer (ahem - thundershowers???) term, children should bring their P.E. kits into school on a Monday and take them home each Friday as we may be able to have extra sessions in preparation for Sports Days depending on the weather.
As the temperatures begin to rise, please also make sure that all children are bringing in water bottles so they can have a drink throughout the day!
NEW WEBPAGE ALERT!
How exciting... a new look for our class page, just in time for lots of photos and infrmation to be uploaded so you can see exactly what we've been up to.
This term, we've been focusing on fractions, decimals & percentages - there's just so much to remember!
Have a look at some of the links I've added below which will keep you busy - playing while learning. Let me know what you think - or if you find a good website, we can upload the link so everyone else in our class can have a look...
In topic, we're trying to decide whether or not we'd be a good 'Flintstone' (or if we'd actually WANT to be one at all!).
One of the activities we'll be having a go at is cave paintings... trying to recreate something similar to this:
Keep checking back to see new blogs from our class and to keep up to date with all of our latest news - from the children, for the children.
BUSHCRAFT SKILLS... SHERWOOD PINES TRIP
On Tuesday, 23rd February all year 5 and 6 children took a trip to Sherwood Pines forest Park, where we met with some of the rangers.
After walking for 0.9 miles, we reached the BUSHCRAFT SITE where we were able to spend time learning
* how to make fire
* how to use a flint fire stick to create a spark
*how to select dry tinder and kindling wood (if it snaps cleanly, it's dry in the middle and will burn, but if it bends the wood is damp all the way through and won't light)
* which materials are flammable
*why oxygen is important to create and sustain fire
*fire safety
and the all important....TOASTING MARSHMALLOWS!
We also spent time building shelters, learning:
*how to select and use a ridge pole
* how to support other solid brnches to create an apex
waterproofing our sheleters, using natural debris from the pine trees.
It was a fabulous day and we would definitely recommend it to anyone - several parents have already enquired as to summer activity days for their children...
